SOME OF THE DOG ANXIETY, MOOD & BEHAVIOR PROBLEMS
Separation Anxiety
Dogs may panic when left alone, leading to barking, whining, pacing, destructive chewing, house soiling, drooling, or escape attempts.
Noise Fear / Noise Phobia
Thunder, fireworks, traffic, construction, vacuums, or loud voices can trigger shaking, hiding, barking, bolting, panting, or clinginess.
Generalized Anxiety
Some dogs appear tense in many everyday situations. They may pace, pant, lick, tremble, stay hyper-alert, bark excessively, or struggle to settle.
Fear-Based Aggression
A scared dog may growl, snap, lunge, or bite to create distance. This can happen around strangers, children, other dogs, grooming, vet visits, or unfamiliar environments.
Pain-Related Irritability or Aggression
Pain from arthritis, dental disease, injury, ear infections, skin irritation, stomach discomfort, or orthopedic issues can make a dog defensive when touched or approached.
Canine Cognitive Dysfunction / Senior Dog Dementia
Older dogs may become confused, anxious, restless at night, less social, disoriented, or forget house-training.
Sensory Decline: Hearing or Vision Loss
Dogs with reduced hearing or vision may startle easily, bark more, become clingy, seem confused, or react defensively when surprised.
Thyroid or Hormonal Disorders
Hormonal imbalances can sometimes contribute to changes in energy, mood, irritability, and behavior.
Neurologic Issues or Seizures
Some neurologic problems can cause sudden fear, confusion, compulsive actions, staring, tremors, sleep disruption, or changes in temperament.
Digestive Discomfort or Food Sensitivity
Chronic stomach upset, nausea, gas, or discomfort can make a dog restless, irritable, withdrawn, or reactive.
Skin Allergies and Itching
Constant itching can lead to poor sleep, frustration, licking, chewing, restlessness, and irritability.
Lack of Sleep or Overstimulation
Dogs that do not get enough quality rest may become hyperactive, reactive, nippy, barky, or unable to self-soothe.
Poor Socialization or Past Trauma
Rescue dogs, undersocialized dogs, or dogs with negative past experiences may show fear, avoidance, shutdown behavior, reactivity, or defensive aggression.
Compulsive Behaviors
Repetitive licking, tail chasing, pacing, shadow chasing, or chewing can sometimes be linked to anxiety, stress, pain, neurologic issues, or lack of enrichment.
Resource Guarding
A dog may growl, freeze, snap, or bite around food, toys, beds, people, or resting places. This is often rooted in insecurity, fear, or learned defensive behavior.
